THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION "Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.'"
— Cathechism of the Catholic Church
Confirmation requirements:
Students must attend Faith Formation (CCD) for two consecutive years, at the end of which they shall receive the sacrament of Confirmation (they should have reached ages 13 or 14 by this time). Children should begin their two years of preparation as they enter 8th grade in school.
After their first year, students will be considered Confirmation candidates.
Faith Formation attendance is crucial; students may not miss more than 4 times during the school year.
Additionally, Confirmation candidates are required to complete 20 total hours in service to the community (10) and the church (10). Please come by the office and speak to the secretary about this requirement.
Sponsors: the requirements to act as sponsor/Godparent for a Confirmation candidate are comparable to Baptismal requirements. Below is a link to the document with specifics about these requirements.
If there are any questions or concerns, please get in touch with the Confirmation director, Elvia Rascón — (806) 202-1128.
